Microsoft has mitigated major Azure cloud service disruptions caused by severed undersea cables in the Red Sea, though users across Asia, Europe, and the Middle East continue experiencing latency issues. The incident initially affected 17% of global internet traffic, forcing Microsoft engineers to reroute data flows through alternative pathways.

Repairs to critical cables including SEACOM/TGN-EA, AAE-1, and EIG face logistical challenges in the geopolitically sensitive region. While the company hasn't disclosed the cause of damage, historical precedents point to accidental anchor strikes or deliberate sabotage as potential culprits.

The technical disruption coincided with a 2.55% decline in MSFT shares on Friday, closing at $495. Microsoft maintains daily traffic monitoring to minimize operational impacts until full repairs are completed.
